We have the expertise and the experience to repair nearly every possible kind of domestic antique clock, from carriage clocks to the largest longcase clocks, from simple thirty hours to complex musical clocks.
We are used to restoring missing parts (moon-drives, calendars, hands etc...), having restored many thousands of antique clocks over the years.
We undertake furniture and clock case restoration, according to the work required. We are capable of exceptionally high quality boulle restoration and laqcuer restoration.
We have seen some dire examples of boulle restoration, and have repaired boulle clocks that were badly restored in the past. We also have superb contacts for tortoise-shell and other hard-to-pin-down restorers.
We work closely with Jewelworks - www.jewelworks.co.uk, who staff our London workshop when we are not there and who do superb jewellery restoration and repair.
We do lacquer case restoration ourselves. This can be slow and expensive work, but we think we are pretty good at it.
We have a flexible attitude to clock restoration standards. Some customers are truly looking for "restoration" in the traditional sense of the word, and expect clocks to gleam as though they were made last week. Others may seek a far more sensitive approach.
We care for customers' clocks. Each is fully insured and kept in exceptionally secure premises. We impressed our insurance company so much they asked if we could give lessons!
Another reason we try to complete work as quickly as possible is our own insurance limits. It only takes a few truly top flight clocks to bump up the limit.
We always welcome visitors to our main clock workshops in Stamford, Lincolnshire.
Stamford is a small and very pretty market town exactly half way between London and Harrogate on the A1.
The town defies superlatives in term of appearance and historical interest; It was the first ever listed Conservation Area in England, and is a thriving, bustling Georgian market town. We work in the former town gaol, built in the 1580s.
We are open Monday to Friday, 9.00 to 5.00 excepting bank holidays. Saturdays 10.00 to 4.00.
Alternatively, we are happy to visit clocks in the home or office, either around Stamford or Harrogate, or in central and north London.

Below is a quick snapshot of where we work. Unpreposessing from the outside, it houses four floors of horological expertise.
Whilst the place was built in 1580 (though re-facaded in 1849) and has bags of charm, our first priority was security. The thick walls and stout doors were a winner - you can't ram-raid this building!

We don't normally pepper our website with "testimonials", but this one seemed short enough to quote:
Dear Mr Loomes and Staff,
As you can see I am no photographer but my shortcomings in that direction are more than made up for by the appearance of the clock following your work on it.
A big thank you to your staff who greeted us last Saturday - I should have asked their names; the dark haired young lady in the shop, and the brummie guy who restores dials could not have been more helpful. We spent a couple of hours in Stamford, a place we have not visited before; what an attractive town it is; we intend coming back to explore further.
The whole experience has been very pleasant, long may the business (and your column in 'Clocks') continue and more abandoned clocks turn up than you can shake a stick at.
Very best wishes,
Richard
